Venue & Accommodation Options

The Symposium will take place in Best Western Hotel Pannonia**** in Sopron, Hungary. The hotel is located in the centre of the town, where pubs, restaurants and various attractions can be found within a few minutes’ walk. Sopron is located 60 km from Vienna, 90 km from Bratislava and 220 km from Budapest, offering a unique opportunity to discover the region after the symposium.

A limited number of rooms have been reserved at Best Western Hotel Pannonia**** Participants wishing to stay in the hotel can book these rooms until the late registration deadline. Booking requests should be addressed directly to the hotel indicating ‘IUFRO 2014 Sopron’ as a reference.

Two types of room have been reserved with the following prices:

• Single room: 9.900 HUF/person/night (approx. 34 EUR)
• Double room: 12.900 HUF/person/night (approx. 43 EUR

Prices include breakfast, Wi-Fi connection and the use of leisure facilities, but does not include local tax (app. 1.5 EUR/pers./night) Parking is limited and a parking fee applies.

• University dormitory (to be booked through the organizers)

On Thursday night the accommodation is provided, and its fee is included in the field trip fee.

How to get to Sopron

By flight

Should you travel by air we recommend you to travel via Vienna. From the airport take an airport bus to Meidling Trainstation, which is on the route from Vienna Airport to Wien Westbahnhof. From Meidling Trainstation you can find direct trains to Sopron in almost every hour.

If you travel via Budapest Airport, take a taxi or a minibus to Keleti Railwaystation. From there you will find trains in almost every hour.

By train

If you come through Budapest, choose Keleti Railwaystation (or Kelenföld Trainstation as an alternative), where you can change to trains to Sopron. When you plan your trip make sure you choose a direct train, or you sit to the right section of the train. In some cases the trains have sections with different destinations and separated usually in Gyõr or Csorna stations. (Green-yellow trains normally come to Sopron)

If you come through Vienna, choose Vienna South Railwaystation (Südbahnhof), or Meidling Trainstation. There are frequent train connections between Vienna and Sopron.

By car

By car you can find the Hotel Pannonia at the address 75 Várkerület str, Sopron. GPS N 47°41'01,21" GPS E 16°35"35,52"

Within the city

Hotel Pannonia is located in the close vicinity of the city centre. It is approx. 1 km from the train station and its sign can be seen from a distance above the rooftops. With heavy luggage we recommend to take a taxi.
