A crucial point of making a plan for woody energy plantations and for forestation is the selection of tree species and varieties that are capable of utilizing the ecological conditions of the specific Talajarea so they can be best recommended for plantation. Investigation of soil conditions and definition of genetic soil type are of special importance in order to recognize ecological conditions. Soil type is defined from the field data of soil profile analysis and from the results of laboratory analysis of soil profile samples. Researchers describe soil chemistry and soil physical characteristics in expert reports and recommend the most suitable species and varieties for plantation. The latter is of the utmost importance especially prior to the establishment of short rotation energy forests because the available benefit during the life span of the plantation is strongly influenced by the relationship between site and variety. After the site investigation aimed at the determination of soil type, considering the aim of plantation and the target stand, our colleagues make a plan for woody energy plantations and their approval procedure on order. These plans include the most important plantation technology requirements like initial spacing, parameters of the operating road, procedures of planting, tending cutting, weed control, protection against pathogens and pests, elimination of plantations, machines, determination of chemicals to be used. Plans based on several decades of experience are a guarantee for a successful plantation management.
